5-year-old girl struck and killed by car running red light

Arizona residents are aware that drivers must share the road, and not just with other cars. In addition to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians also utilize the roads. Depending on the type and location, there may be people traversing near roadways on bike or by foot. That's why drivers should always be aware of their surroundings. Failure to check blind spots, use mirrors, signal turns and reduce speeds when the encounter a pedestrian or cyclist could cause a collision. Collisions can seriously or fatally injure a person upon impact with the vehicle.

A young girl in Mesa was recently struck and killed by a driver. According to preliminary reports, the 5-year-old girl was crossing the road with her family when a driver struck her near the 2200 block of East Main Street. The fatal pedestrian accident occurred around 9:00 p.m. and no others were injured in the crash.

The driver that struck the girl stated that she did not see the red light, so she continued through the intersection and collided with the young girl in the crosswalk. Investigation is still ongoing and no charges were reported at this time. If the driver of the car is found to be at fault in the accident, the driver could face serious criminal charges as well as civil liabilities.

The family of a deceased victim can file a wrongful death lawsuit. Accidents like these can leave behind large medical bills, funeral costs and other associated damages. Filing a claim might help the family recover monetarily in order to cover the expenses that resulted from the tragic accident.

Pedestrian accidents might occur suddenly and unexpectedly. Victims might suffer critical, even fatal injuries.. The loss of a loved one is difficult to cope with, especially when the victim is young. Understanding legal options and remedies could help a family cope with their loss while also helping them with the financial hardships the accident created.
