Scottsdale City Council seeks to reduce pedestrian crashes

It is very common to see pedestrians and cyclists traveling near or on the roadways in Arizona. This is especially true in shopping areas, parking lots, residential streets and downtown areas. When the weather is nice and an individual does not need a vehicle to travel to their destination, pedestrians will frequent the sidewalks and crosswalks. These areas are also shared with vehicles, so it is important the drivers and pedestrians are aware of one another. Failure to do so could lead to a damaging pedestrian accident.

In order to reduce the rate of pedestrian accidents, the City Council in Scottsdale is taking precautionary steps. At their recent meeting, the City Council revealed that they seek to calm traffic along the stretch of road on Camelback Road that has been the site of serious collisions between pedestrians and automobiles. It is their intention to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Camelback Road and Buckboard Trail. In addition, they plan to install lighted speed-limit signs in order to increase the awareness for drivers along this stretch of road.

When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the pedestrian could easily suffer serious of even fatal injuries. It is difficult for a person to withstand the size and impact of a vehicle. Furthermore, due to the high rate of speed the automobile could be traveling at, a pedestrian will find it difficult to evade or avoid a collision with a vehicle that is headed in their direction.

Anyone who has been hit by a car and injured should be aware of their legal remedies following an accident with a motorist. Filing a personal injury suit could help them cover resulting expenses such as medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and other related damages.

The recovery process following pedestrian accidents can be lengthy and painful. Those involved and affected by the incident should understand their rights and available options. This might mean filing a civil action in order to recover compensation to cover these financial burdens caused by the negligent driver that collided with them.
