Traumatic Brain Injury Claims

Traumatic brain injury can be caused by an injury or blow to the head, common causes are collisions involving trucks, cars, motorcycles, or bicycles. In the last several years the potential long term effects of head injuries in sports have been well documented and reported.

Physical symptoms of brain injury may include loss of consciousness, being dazed, headache, nausea, sleep dysfunction, dizziness, or loss of balance.

Sensory symptoms may include ringing in the ears, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light or sound.

Mental or cognitive symptoms may include memory or concentration deficits, there may be emotional changes, including depression, anxiety.

Evaluation and treatment may entail specialists including a family doctor, neurologist, psychologist, neuropsychologist, occupational or speech therapist. Cognitive training may take place when traumatic brain injury symptoms and treatment are long term.

Unfortunately, symptoms can be chronic. Severe traumatic brain injury and the residual symptoms can obviously severely impact an individual, his or her family, and result in significant lost income and medical expenses.

Examples of traumatic brain injury personal injury cases that I have handled, resulting in settlements or awards, include the following:

A bicyclist was traveling in a crosswalk in Scottsdale when he was struck by a commercial vehicle. A skull bone fracture was sustained, CT and MRI scans documented brain injury. Neuropsychological evaluations also supported the injury and future medical costs claims.

Another client was proceeding through a green light in Peoria, his vehicle was hit by a left turning driver. Cerebral concussion and continuing post concussion symptoms were documented by the family doctor and neurologist.

Another client was hit by a left turning vehicle in Scottsdale, he suffered traumatic brain injury with concussion, closed head injury. The injuries were documented by a family doctor, neurologist, psychologist, neuropsychologist and a psychiatrist.
