FedEx and UPS Vehicles and Crashes

UPS and FedEx vehicles and trucks are regularly present on Phoenix and Arizona roads and highways.

FedEx has more than 90,000 fleet vehicles at locations around the world. UPS has a delivery fleet of approximately 100,000 cars, vans, tractors, and trailers.

UPS and FedEx crashes can occur as a result of distracted, or negligent driving, the adverse results and injuries can be serious because the vehicles can be heavier and larger than average motor vehicles.

On April 10, 2014 ten people were killed, 39 were injured, when a driver drove a FedEx vehicle on Interstate 5 in Glenn County, California, a crash occurred with a tour bus. The California Highway Patrol believed that there was evidence of fatigue or sleepiness, as well as unsafe turning by the FedEx driver.

On January 9, 2015 a UPS driver was killed following a three truck crash on I-80/94, west of Gary, Indiana. A Kenworth tractor bobtail with no trailer went out of control, which was then hit by a Volvo semi pulling double trailers. The Kenworth went across all lanes of traffic, eventually striking a disabled International semi owned by UPS, also pulling double trailers.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCA) provides for regulations that UPS and FedEx and other truck drivers and the trucks must comply with, there are numerous mandatory safety requirements, that apply to driver training, hours of service and truck maintenance.
