Charges refiled against Phoenix man for hit-and-run

Losing a loved one in an accident is often a difficult time for those close to the deceased. Those going through the coping process may find it difficult to fully move on, especially when there are still unanswered questions. This often occurs when a hit-and-run accident happens and the friends and family of the deceased do not know who caused the accident and what exactly happened.

Charges were recently re-filed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office against a man who was accused of striking and killing a female pedestrian. The 41-year-old woman was struck while she was walking on the sidewalk in north Phoenix. The pedestrian accident occurred in March and initial charges following the hit-and-run accident were dropped on April 2, 2013 due to a lack of evidence.

After a recent investigation, more evidence was uncovered and multiple witnesses were able to place the accused and his vehicle near the scene of the crime from which he presumably fled. The driver now is being charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. In addition to these criminal charges, the driver could face civil liability. The family of the deceased pedestrian may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. Compensation may be available for the family to cover medical bills, funeral costs, damages and pain and suffering.

Fatal accidents can create a very emotional and difficult time for the loved ones of the deceased. A person is not only taken away from his or her loved ones too early and unexpectedly, but the surviving family members are left with financial burdens from the accident. Often gaining compensation to cover bills and damages can help with the coping process.
