Arizona woman struck by pickup, killed on Interstate 10

Hit-and-run accidents are taken very seriously by authorities and generally result in a thorough investigation. The Arizona Department of Transportation is investigating a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in which a Maricopa woman was struck by a pickup truck and killed, after she was ejected from the vehicle in which she was a passenger.

Authorities were dispatched to the scene of the crash, which occurred at around 8:20 p.m. on Interstate 10 near Chandler Boulevard. The woman was riding in a pickup which was traveling at a high rate of speed when it came upon traffic that had slowed for a disabled vehicle in the roadway. When the pickup swerved to avoid other vehicles, the woman was thrown from the pickup and then hit by another pickup, which did not stop at the scene. The victim was taken to Chandler Regional Medical Center but later died from her injuries.

The accident caused major delays and halted traffic for about 4 miles on the interstate. Road closures and detours were put in place so emergency crews could tend to the accident, clear the site of any hazards and conduct their investigation. According to authorities, the death is being investigated as a homicide. They are looking for a pickup with damage from the collision.

When a person is killed due to another person's negligence, the victim's loved ones have the right to file a wrongful death suit against the negligent party. They can recover damages for funeral costs, loss of support and loss of companionship.
