Suspected drunk driver collides with stopped car, killing two

The roadways can be the stage for tragedy. This is especially true when a driver is negligent or distracted. An unsuspecting driver can do little to prevent a sudden collision, even if he or she is driving safely and following the rules of the road. Unfortunately, this means a speeding, texting or impaired negligent driver could cause a serious or even fatal accident that affects numerous vehicles and victims on the roadway.

Authorities in Mesa recently responded to a multi-vehicle collision that involved four vehicles and left two dead and one injured. According to reports, the accident occurred during the morning hours near Brown Road and Recker Road. Police officers believe an automobile traveling north on Recker Road was speeding at an extremely high speed when it collided with a car that was stopped at a red light. Two other vehicles were struck due to this initial collision.

The two passengers in the struck car were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The drivers of the two automobiles that were subsequently hit due to the impact of the original crash did not endure any life-threatening injuries. The 35-year-old driver of the speeding vehicle was suspected of driving while impaired and remains under police supervision while she receives medical treatment at the hospital.

A negligent driver could face serious penalties for causing a fatal accident. He or she could endure criminal penalties and civil liabilities. The loved ones of a deceased individual could receive compensation through a wrongful death lawsuit to help cover expenses associated with the crash. Oftentimes funeral costs, medical bills, lost wages and other damages leave family members with financial hardship. A monetary award could help alleviate this stress.

It is nothing short of tragedy when a person is suddenly struck and killed by a drunk or negligent driver. Those affected by a fatal crash should understand what options are available to them. This could greatly help them, especially if they are finding it difficult to cope with their loss or are overcome with bills associated with the accident.
