Trucker Negligence and Crashes on Arizona Interstates

There's an ongoing stream of trucking company vehicles crossing Arizona Interstates, on I-17, I-40, I-10, and I-8, on a daily basis.

Prominent trucking businesses include Swift Transportation, Cysco, Albertson's, Walmart, Pepsi, FedEx, UPS, Knight Refrigerated, C.R. England, Prime Inc, CRST Expedited, Atlas Van Lines and hundreds more.

Given the massive weight, size and speed of these vehicles, including tractor-trailers, 18-wheelers, tankers, flatbeds and construction vehicles, disastrous consequences may occur when a crash occurs.

Common causes of truck collisions include driver fatigue, distracted driving, violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, poor maintenance, and driver negligence, such as speeding or unsafe lane changes.

On November 20, 2014, a Phoenix truck driver said that he fell asleep before his Freightliner tractor set off a fiery chain-reaction collision on I-17 near Bell Road, killing one person and severely injuring several others. The truck driver may have been impaired, he did not apply his brakes before, during or after crossing three lanes of interstate traffic and rear-ending another vehicle.

A deadly crash occurred on I-10 near Southern Avenue on the Broadway Curve, on February 28, 2013, when a semi-truck driver lost control of his vehicle, and crashed into the median wall, sending debris striking two vehicles. The truck caught fire, the truck driver was killed.
