Mesa Bicycle and Pedestrian Program

A 2015 City of Mesa Transportation Department Bicycle and Pedestrian Program concluded that:

•· Most cyclists wear a helmet

•· A majority of riders prefer streets with bike lanes

•· Cyclists believe that vehicles don't share the roadway, that right turning vehicles are a safety issue.

A 2012 Mesa Bicycle Plan claimed that Mesa is a world class city for bicycling, that it is one of the premier cities in the Southwest for bicycling.

The City of Mesa Bicycle Master Plan was designed to increase bicycle ridership, improve the safety of bicyclists through bike lanes and reduce bicycle related crashes. Mesa has an extensive bike lane system.

The longest Mesa bicycle lanes on major east-west roadways include:

•· McKellips Road, Center Street to 96th Street, 12 miles

•· Brown Road, Country Club Drive to 72nd Street, 9.5 miles

•· Broadway Road, Gilbert Road to Power Road, 6 miles.

The longest Mesa bicycle lanes on major north - south roadways include:

•· Higley Road, Longbow Parkway to Southern Avenue, 6.2 miles

•· Lindsay Road, McDowell Road to Baseline Road, 6 miles

•· Greenfield Road, McDowell Road to Pueblo Avenue, 4.5 miles
