When a driver takes to the road, certain safety precautions should be taken. In addition to following the rules of the road, Arizona drivers understand that wearing a seatbelt is important because even when a driver is traveling safely on the road, they need to protect themselves from negligent drivers. When a driver is speeding, fails to yield or stop to the right of way, does not signal a turn or is driving while intoxicated, they could cause a crash with other drivers resulting in serious injuries, severe damages and even fatalities.
A wrong-way collision occurred recently on State Route 51 and authorities in Phoenix were called to the scene of the fatal motor vehicle accident. According to preliminary reports, a 27-year-old driver was intoxicated when he collided head-on with an Escalade registered as a taxi at around 4:23 a.m.
Following the crash, emergency crews arrived to the scene. A 55-year-old female passenger was killed in the accident and it was reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Escalade suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the vehicle traveling the wrong-way was charged with numerous criminal charges, and it was discovered that the driver has a past record of DUI’s. In addition to facing criminal penalties, the driver could face civil liability.
The loved ones of the deceased victim could file a wrongful death claim and the injured driver could file a personal injury claim. Each lawsuit could result in compensation that could cover the expenses associated with the fatal collision.
A negligent driver, such as an intoxicated driver, is very dangerous for other drivers on the roadway. Those affected by a negligent or drunk driver should understand that they have options and rights. This could mean filing for compensation so they can alleviate financial burdens and promote the healing and coping process.
