Ikea Chest and Dresser Recall Following Another Child Death

Ikea has recalled 29 million chests and dressers in the United States and Canada, after the death of another minor child. The most recent death involved a 2 year old who became trapped by an IKEA Malm three drawer chest that was not fastened to the wall.

Ikea states that it wanted to increase the awareness of the recall for several types of chests and dressers, that can tip even if they are anchored to a wall.

Over 100 injuries have been reported due to dressers tipping. Eight children under age three have been killed when an Ikea dresser fell on them. Lawsuits have been settled with families of deceased children.

Ikea is offering refunds, free wall mounting kits and crews to go into homes and perform the attaching to the wall.
